I have some unusual expenses coming up this fall (children -- very expensive, but in a good way), and am over 90 days since applying for any credit cards.

Any suggestions on what particularly high required spend cards are currently available and most rewarding?

The United Explorer cards are in a sense high minimum spend cards due to the 10k bonus after $25k.

Heard about these and was thinking about getting one for myself. Have you had any problems with them?

United Club Card gives you 1.5 for ever dollar spent,

Depends on what you want out of the spend.

AA miles to a UA traveler is not rewarding...

    What is your goal.

I have had the UA Explorer card for a while. It is, in fact, my everyday-spend card until I hit $25K in spending, collect the 10K bonus miles and then I switch to the United Club visa card, which earns 50% more on general purchases than the Explorer. In fact, I just hit the $25K spend this month, and like clockwork, the bonus points posted without my having to intervene; a nice summary too:

Given that the United Club visa earns 50% more bonus miles on general spend than the Explorer, why not just use the UC card? Well, I did the math a while back (so that you wouldn't have to) and it turns out that because of the 10K bonus miles on the Explorer after a $25K spend, the latter card is the better bonus point earner up to $25K in spending. Above that, the United Club card becomes more rewarding. Hence my strategy of using the Explorer first and then switching to the UC card after I hit $25K in spending. I get the best of both worlds...;)

Correct, but I can pick my seat, on any flight...if it is open, and it is a reward seat.

All the miles world are no good if they can not be used..

 I am not sure I understand what you are alluding to, but I am 1K, I fly mostly in upgraded cabins, and I have never had any difficulty using my miles...

I want redeemable airline miles, preferably in UR or MR or AA/US.

The Card is suppose to make any seat an award seat, for anyone who hold the card., we use to get E+ for free with the card...

I am Lifetime Gold, and do not always qualify for Gold, or higher since
    I retired.

    However things are always changing,
