Ok, it's not a list yet. Your input is needed.

Of course we all know that giftcards.com obtained through bigcrumbs.com gets a nice rebate more than equal to their $4.95 per $500 card fee. And pin-based giftcards can be used to buy money orders and money orders can be deposited. And in most cases giftcards earn miles. And they look better as purchases on your summary than rows of OPC-Dollar Coins.

WalMart charges 89 cents for a MO up to $1000. USPS charges $1.10 up to $500 and $1.50 up to $1000. Can 2 $500 giftcards be used for one $1000 money order. Are there many free money orders?

Are there banks that allow a deposit directly from a pin-based giftcard?

Do Chase's own giftcards earn miles? Do AmEx's?

How do the Mint's e-giftcards show up on summaries? Can they buy coins?

I don't think there's any secret to this that would cause it to go away, since giftcards normally have a fee, but maybe it's best to not be too explicit.

If the mods want to move this to general miles&points, I'm fine with that too.

The cards on giftcards.com are not pin-based, afaik. How do you convert that gc into a pin-based card?

    Doesn't Wal-Mart only accept cash for MO's?

Yes, that's the problem- how to convert giftcards.com cards which are not pin-based to cash.

WalMart (as well as USPS) takes pin-based debit cards for MO's since a pin-based debit is the same as cash.

Is it possible to recharge prepaid Visa / Mastercard debit cards (PIN-based) with Visa gift cards? And what about Plastic Jungle? Has anyone messed with them? It looks like it might end up costing quite a bit of money to do it that way, though.

Correct. Otherwise, it would have been widely discussed and abused until it is closed.

There have been in the past and most likely currently very fragile and high risk ways to cash out certain GC’s. These have mostly only been talked about in private. Once they become public in a thread it is not a pretty site. There are many examples of this at FT. It is something to think about before continuing down this path.

And that's why I asked that people not be too explicit.

Diligent people can get a hint and figure it out while others just want to be spoon-fed and that does ruin a good thing.

Usually mentioning what does not work is a good idea.

state farm giftcards? although they do not come with a pin, they have a "Empty into bank account" option, although they charge a minimal $3 fee to do so. I haven't yet ordered from them so they charge shipping?
