It’s looking like I might be doing the DCA - ATL jump a good bit next year. Let’s pretend that I'll get 30 segments in U class (discounted) and under 30K miles (prior to discount factor for each partner, so say 15K miles).

After I get those segments I’ll be almost done flying that route (which means priority handling of rebooking would not help me, and I might get help with that in the lounge anyway). So any status I earn would be used later on award flights (points from CC) and a few discounted paid domestic flights with my wife. Also I have American Express Platinum so Delta lounge access is not needed. I based on what I can tell the base status is not worth much in most programs, so I’m just trying to guess the best route. I’m leaning towards Alaska.

What do you think is the best status to work towards?

That could give me MVP on Alaska, where I have 60k miles and a strong affinity towards since I grew up in Alaska

Gold on FlyingBlue, I have a 6k points but can get more via transfers, I like Air France and would pay highly discounted fares or use points for flights to Europe

or Silver on Delta, I have no points and in the past 15 years have not been able to use my wife’s 40k points! So I view those points poorly…

or Mix it up and just fly Southwest and earn A-List status, my wife and I have enjoyed the credit card based companion pass for the past four years, and will try to earn it again later next year
