I know that for some, hitting the local diners and family-owned restaurants is part of the fun. Im not one of those however. Dont get me wrong, I do support small businesses, and getting immersed into a city's culture is fun. But for the most part, when it comes to food, I want consistency and to know exactly what I am getting when I order it. Maybe thats why I like staying at Marriott hotels.... ;)

Anyway, wanted to see what everyone's favorite chain for breakfast is. Im a simple guy from the sticks..... I love Waffle House, Steak and Shake, and Cracker Barrel. Does not get much better than that for me.

Also, anyone else like me and prefer to stick to restaurant chains?

I prefer to try local establishments, but I do enjoy Waffle House on occasion when I am in a city that has one.

Might I suggest editing your poll adding "Regional/Local Chain" and changing "Chain" to "National Chain", as I find their is a big difference in the two. :)

I don't like national chains, like Le Pain Quotidien, Ihop, Denny's or a racist Cracker Barrel. I don't like regional chain, Shake Shack.

However, I really like local chains like Yolk in Chicago; Flying Biscuit in Atlanta; Bread Winners in Dallas, and Daily Grill in Los Angeles, etc.

I think the only national chain I eat at is Au Bon Pain pastries seem to hit the spot.

I'm not a waffle house fan. They just come across so "hick-ish" I've only been to the Atlanta area locations and every time i've gone there is a fight or some sort of "show" during my meal.

I had not heard of that accusation regarding Cracker Barrel before. I know Denny's was engaging in racism years ago. But I cannot remember if that was an isolated issue.

The "C" word is currently considered a racist slur. But the company name probably predates that classification. ;)

A long time ago, but nothing reported for the last 12-15 years iirc. In fact, they've made great efforts to move forward.

According to the Human Rights Campaign 2013 Guide, Cracker Barrel scores a pretty dismal 35 out of 100 in workplace equality. Still, that is a significant improvement over the past few years!

(The HRC deals mainly with Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender equality, not racism. But discrimination of one type frequently is consistent with other types of discrimination within their corporate culture.)

    Amen brother !
agree with vickers on the hick-ish
I think that you & I would enjoy sharing a beer, but then we both know that when it came to food, we'd have to part ways, although if we were drinking all night, then of course Waffle House would be in order:D

IHOP is okay in a pinch, but I much prefer local places. In Chicago, my favorite breakfast place, and really the best breakfast I've ever had over the 3 times I've been there is a place called The Bongo Room (they have multiple locations - but I always go to the one in Bucktown/Wicker Park on N Milwaukee). All 3 times I've been there, my meal has made me a celebrity for about 5-10 minutes after the plate was delivered - everyone comes over to ask what it was that I ordered, because it looks so awesome. I noticed someone else getting the meal oogle as I was leaving the last time I was there - seems to be a common trait.
