I have actually had quite good luck with http://www.beatthetimer.com/ for re-booking cancellable reservations in Europe. Three of the properties I already have April reservations for have shown up, and I have rebooked, twice at nearly 30 Euro less per night. I am not a big fan of pre-paid rates, especially when the differential is very slight between them and a fully changeable/cancellable rate, but 107 Euro down to 76 works for me.

Missed this completely and there doesn't seem to be much information. Do they put up a new set of available rooms and hotels every 72 hours?

Thanks for this. Some good properties at reasonable prices. Looks like Europe and Africa only from the map. Do they list properties in other areas?

Thanks, I will give it a try. It's a shame there is not a few more countries.

Also keep in mind that the property selection pretty much loops in and out, so the rates often exist even when the properties aren't on the list.

Try the SET code for Beat The Timer on a normal search and if a property participates in BTT, you will often find availability even when the hotel isn't live on the list. Saves waiting around for the property to return ;)

I think the reason why a lot of people don't know about this is that it normally only shows up as a promotion via SPG to members in the EMEA region. Open to all though.

Wow. And I thought I new pretty well all there was to know about *wood! This is a new one for me.

I especially like the 'lowest' price feature. Good way to quickly scan for mattress runs.

Speaking of which, I notice they are practically giving away rooms in Tunisia. Wonder why?

    Cheers,

Thanks for the link. I just added it to my bookmarks.

Never heard of this option on SPG (why is it not more publicized?), or using the BTT code, but both are handy to have on hand.

"practically" giving away rooms? The Carthage one is zero euros out through mid-May!

I did click through one of the zero Euro deals, which took me to the property website where rooms were more than 100 Euros, so I think that's a glitch. (It's not a bug, it's a feature!)

I assume SPG members would get full stay credit, points and benies from these rates?

As long as you book through a *wood branded website, yes.

I'm assuming that beat the timer is somewhat similar to starpicks?

Yes, but seems to go farther in the future. I have booked three hotels for April recently. Better rates than SPG or the Platinum concierge were able to secure.

My Helsinki hotel stay went down 70 euros. I owe someone a bag of marshmallows. Homemade of course.

Actually, I just rebooked a stay in Munich that I knew had a BTT rate that I could see online, so I talked with the concierge about it and asked him if he could see it if I gave him the rate code, and he was able to change my cancellable reservation to a BTT rate, though it was a rate he was previously unaware of. A non-cancellable rate is a bit risky for only a savings of 9.5 Euro, but I'll be on the road a while and it's all on my own pfennig, so I have to conserve where I can.

I'm likely dense - but what do you mean by "the SET code"?
