I'll admit I laughed when I first saw this, but this is wrong on a couple of different levels. First, some would consider this racist. Second, 3 people are dead. Not exactly something that we should be joking about. I'd expect something like this from a comedian or a late night talk show, but a professional (supposedly) news organization?:eek::rolleyes:

Also, with all of the people involved in the production process, you'd think one of them (at least) would've said, "Hey, wait a minute. We might be getting played." If the people at that station are too dumb to notice something that obvious, they should be fired.

I find this entire story hilarious on how the media are a bunch of collective doofuses (doofii?).

But I agree about the racist nature too.

Anyone who did not get the obviously fake names.... Deserves to have that joke pulled on them. They are reporters no? You would think they have a few brain cells.

    +1

Guessing KTVU must have summer interns as editors and floor manager staff for summer. [besides the NTSB]

There is no way this should have occurred in a Top 25 tv market, even if it is the weekend and the station GM is either totally not with it, or on vacation somewhere.

IMO, most reporters are deficient in that area.

I expect the NTSB intern has been removed. Station was negligent in not noting the names sounded fishy -- it says a lot about the ignorance of this media outlet.

this was just wrong at all levels. Keep in mind two people died from this incident, and I hope that interns intentions were not one of humor, cuz it really wasn't funny.

or it could've been intentional to increase ratings/sales. Just blame it on the intern.

3 people have no died and agree there is no humor in this. As for the station trying to pump sales, I hope that any respectable media outlet would not stoop to stunts like this. I don;t think that was the case here as the NTSB admitted the names came from them
It also blows their credibility (esp if they were bragging about their firsts for their reporting of the crash), esp for a tv station in the Bay area, a region with a high Asian population.
