What is nice about this is having the discount applicable for all destinations. Last year the 50% award reduction only was on a few routes (BKK-LPQ, BKK-PNH and small smattering of others).

Fees add up with PG awards though. For the short international flights you'll generally pay about 50% of the lowest Y ticket in fees/taxes. For example, PNH-BKK-PNH is about $225 for a 'Q' fare. If using points you'll pay about $110 for the r/t in taxes/fees. For domestic flights it might even be more than half the Y cost.

What is great about this promotion is the ability to procure o/w international tix without paying the o/w penalty of a higher fare class. For example, taking the example above, that PNH-BKK o/w will run you about $55 in taxes/fees. If you purchased a o/w ticket you'd be looking at > $150.

PG doesn't have a great FFP but when you can use promotions such as last year's double bonus points in conjunction with this 50% off awards the plan is mildly useful.
