  1. Live world music and awesome barbecue will be happening this week and weekend during the 6th Annual Rhythm of the Earth World Festival in Bangkok. Head on down to Central World to check it out — it’s free!
Various local and international musical acts will give free performances on a stage in the plaza. Vendors are barbecuing around the perimeter. Last year also featured a number of international and local acts including a Grammy-nominated Zydeco band.
This year’s headliners include Faso Denya, from Burkino Faso. Thursday, February 17, U.S. Ambassador Kristie Kenney will stop in for some BBQ sampling and then introduce the American band, the Lee Boys who will be on at 8 pm doing their unusual steel drum gospel with a touch of blues/funk/hip hop/jazz. Other acts include som Shan music (northern Thailand), Bunterro Band from Spain, the Sri Lankan Cultural Troupe, and AMIS Ethnic Dancers from Taiwan.
The event is hosted again by American-gone-native Todd Tongdee.
