Thanks to inspiration from a fellow MPer, I'm putting up this post about the real beer capital of Germany.
Bamberg, designated a Unesco heritage site for its medieval atmosphere, is also famous for its smoked beer. With seven hills each topped with a church, it seems to be referred by some as the "Franconian Rome"

Dude, you beat me to it!

I am away from my photo library but will post some more soon. I'm headed there in 3 weeks.

I once carved a greenman based on the famous one in Bamberg; that one is a corbel under the statue of the Bamberg Rider. I'd love to see more photos of the original.

I also wanted to post pictures of the smoked beer place I went to in the evening, but they were all of people enjoying the food & drink!
Looking forward seeing from you what I missed when I was there :)

I don't have any, but I am going there in 3 weeks and will try to take some. Of course, it will cut into my beer drinking time so I expect a "like" when I do post them :)

Side view of the Dom (Cathedral). It is unusual in that it has four spires. Inside is the tomb of Pope Clement II (only Pope buried north of the Alps) and that of Emperor Henry II (the only German king to have been canonized)

This is a 14mb stitch I did of the ceiling. Probably 20 photos in this image.

Nice pix! I knew I should have stayed a day or two more to explore the area.
