I'm considering booking a departure from DUB on Aer Lingus using UA MP, but purchasing a ticket on BA to DUB separately for positioning. Anyone know how the connection/transfer would work? We may have a single checked bag, which is the only thing I would be concerned with. Obtaining the tickets and doing the transit should be fairly straightforward.

It would also save me around $100pp in UK departure taxes and about 4 hours of travel time vs. my currently booked itin.

EI is not in oneworld, so BA policy says that the bag would not be through-checked onto the EI flight. It would be tagged only to DUB, and you'd have to collect and re-check it there.
