The good news is that they're leveraging their CRM systems to identify passenger travel history and target the destinations based on places they think you might actually travel. The bad news is that they forgot to actually advertise the lowest fares they're offering.

That is a spectacularly shoddy sale.

Much better alliteration than I came up with. I like it!

I stopped paying attention to UA and CO sales a while ago. They are rarely a good deal. Instead they seem to be a last ditch effort to sell excess capacity before reluctantly dropping fares.

Wait a minute. You are supposed to be a CO apologist! I am confused ;)

But yeah, I got a ridiculous LAS offer as well.

I didn't see the word 'sale' anywhere in the ad so why consider it one??;)

In the email, it states: "Continental.com Specials"...

In my most recent one they implied they had a great deal from LAX to Europe for as low as $1,121 excluding taxes and fees

Those CO.com specials are AWFUL and it is going to make many UA elites miss those twares and e-fares....

To be fair, the co.com weekend specials are generally a pretty decent price point for the travel they offer, nearly always better than AA or DL. They're nothing like $600 r/t JFK-SYD on a TWARE, but they're not horrible either.

Those emails are so frustrating. I was looking at one last week, and my wife asked me if they were like the e-fares we used to get (and occasionally buy) from United 10 years ago. No, not really. In fact, there is never a single special from the Bay Area. Well, maybe once, but that was it for the last 4 years or so.
