My question is since TLV (Tel Aviv) has been lumped into the India Sub-continent/Middle East category
and since the rules do not mention that a connection can be made in Europe
that seems to leave only RJ (Royal Jordanian) from TLV to AMM (Amman) or LY (El Al which is a participant) as options to fly on the 30K Business class / 45K First class award from India/Middle East to Asia #1 or #2.

If this is the case, how does one determine award availabiity?
Is there a way other than Expertflyer and Award Desk?

Thanks for your assistance! .. and my apologies if another thread is already opened - I searched and didn't find it ... only Successful Award bookings[IMG]

I've booked these AA on LY awards in the past and the only way I found availability was to call AA. I don't think the online tools will show you LY availability that can be booked through AA as an award.

None of these airlines fly to TLV so I'm not sure how this is helpful.

Have you booked awards to Asia or only towards Europe / North America?
if towards Asia, were you allowed to connect in Europe?
If towards Europe/North America, how has the availability been?

    Thanks for any info!

I have booked awards between TLV and Asia. You cannot connect in Europe for this 30K o/w C award. Your choices are RJ or LY.

Not that it has anything to do with the title of this thread, but yes, I have also booked awards between the US and TLV in the last year. I had no problem getting an F award from NYC-TLV at a 2 week notice. I chose JFK-LHR-TLV in F but JFK-TLV C on LY was available as well.

My mother will be coming to my son's Bar Mitzvah in the summer and had no problem getting the JFK-TLV leg in LY C but had to move a day or two further out to get the TLV-JFK LY C leg.

    Thanks for the info.
So that basically means LY from TLV to BKK, HKG,or PEK ... or RJ to Amman.

    LY also flies to BOM.
Those are the only direct destinations, but you can then continue onwards from there to other destinations in the same region. So you could use the awards for TLV-NRT/SIN/DEL/DOH/etc so long as AA can find the routing.

Another option is to fly LY to BOM and then onwards to HKG,BKK,SIN with 9W or CX

Thanks for the feedback ... for some reason I had thought that LY had dropped the nonstop from TLV to BOM ... but now I see that it is three days a week ...

I understand that I can then connect to continue on to KIX, NRT,DEL, etc I just wanted to make sure that there were indeed only these 5 options for the flights leaving from TLV on this award type (4 on LY and 1 on RJ).

The reason why I haven't called the AA desk, is because I am still researching various options on where to go and whether to use an award(s) or not ...

would matmid availability be a sign that it's available with the aa desk too?
@Travelman where's that picture of yours taken?

I was wondering the same question ... if award availability under matmid would equate to award availability under AA.

Perhaps Yosithezet who has redeemed this type of AA award in the past knows.

OFF TOPIC: The pic in my avatar is of the town Amalfi on the western coast of Italy.

I'm also wondering. I guess someone could do some experiments by calling AA, finding availability for a few dates and a few dates where there is no availability and then crosschecking LY's availability. Or perhaps AA can even tell you which buckets they are looking for.

Any Economy or Business seat that can be booked with Matmid points can be booked with AA miles. You can use online tools like ExpertFlyer to check LY availability.

El Al First is not able to be redeemed with AA miles.
