I'm trying to book a award ticket -- I'd prefer at least outbound F and return could be Y or F in freezing cold January to see a hockey game. (Friday-Sunday) When I look up on continental.com, all the BOS-YYT options are "Mixed Cabins" -- The first flight on CO metal being available as first but the second flight UA Shuttle America EWR-YYT. All EWR-YYT are on Shuttle America E170 which have 6 first seats. In no circumstance (and I've tried multiple dates) can I get a first class seat whether easypass or saverpass. It is very frustrating since the EWR-YYT flights I'm looking at are all empty, not one first seat taken (went over to Expertflyer to confirm). I can get First ("Business") on AC outbound for 25k on one itinerary only but the times really stink. (No other first class options on partners have "all" first class cabins available even when the flights may have first class cabin saverpass or easypass). So I thought I'd try going to UA's website. This is awesome, all I get is: "This itinerary isn't available for a United Saver Award because we don't fly to one or both of these cities. Please try your search again with different cities or as a Star Alliance Award." -- This is nonsense since I can go BOS-EWR on CO then switch EWR-YYT on UA. And when you try "Star Alliance Award": We could not find Saver award seats on our online Star Alliance partners (Continental Airlines, US Airways and Lufthansa). Please try a new search for alternate dates or call United Reservations (1-800-United-1) to explore additional options." -- What no AC? This stinks. Is UA's website THAT BAD it can't figure out how to make these connections? And on that point, CO's is also bad because apparently it never ever can get first class EWR-YYT because of Shuttle America. Disappointing to say the least. I'll probably just go coach both ways for 25k total. CO/UA must not want me to use my extra miles. Any options? Will calling in fix this? If so should I try to redeem on CO or UA. I will say one thing, CO's award process seems better than UA's since at least I can retrieve multiple flight options, even if I don't necessarily like them. Thanks all!
