I'm not really sure where to put this, so feel free to move to the correct place.
Is it for US only (except the areas mentioned as excluded)???
where they got it from Mr. Pickles and then few other sites reblogged it.
And he got it from FlyerTalk, if we want to fully trace the lineage of the story.
I don't know who started it there or where they got it.
...just posting where miketown found it...
It was on that long list of codes posted by a first time poster. The list had another code that saved about 50% on an Alaskan rental (I asked about the code source but did not receive answer). I'm a tad hesitant to keep the reservation not knowing what company it’s for... given I'm going to use it in my old home town.
I have 3 reservations using that code ... but also have 3 w/national who I originally booked.
we'll find out soon enough, but my thinking is that this deal will be dead soon. Maybe avis will allow them to go? who knows
Does it matter that you're using it at home versus out of town?
Yes, it would be more awkward dealing with a rejected the code if for example one of my classmates I will see at my reunion is at the rental desk (one of two hotels in town), versus some anonymous agent at a major airport.
My personal feeling is you should be preparied to pick up the car should they prove that I'm not qualifed to use a code. In this case I’m not really interested in paying $100/day for a rental car in a town with a total of 18 miles of road… (Should the code be rejected.) If we don’t have the car we could walk the three miles of downtown….
This deal is dead unless you have the hard coupon to present according to disboards.com
Too many abused it I guess.
Yeah. I just checked my reservations and discount no longer applies
i logged in and looked at my reservation i made yesterday and the discount is still in there. I have avis presidential status so I usually bypass the counter, do you think it will still work?
People bragging about how many they booked are a usually a good indication of how quickly the deals will die.
Interesting. So "getting caught" is a problem because someone else would know, not because you got caught??
There were some reports that it could still be applied by booking via the United website. Still not likely to be honored, but that was out there a couple hours ago.
Yes I think I'm less willing to embarrass myself with people I know than some random person. Also if you know that person and they ask you a question you may be less vague and less likely to flub a bit.
Seems the free Avis weekend deal isn't going to be honored anyways. Their twitter account has indicated "AWD TUEA002 is invalid and your reservation will be cancelled."
Got my 2 email cancellations just now...
At Avis, our goal is to provide a stress-free rental experience whenever you need a rental car. Upon review of your recent reservation, xxxxxxxxxxx, it has come to our attention that the discount code you have entered is invalid, and so your reservation has been tentatively cancelled. If you have a valid coupon certificate, we are ready to restore your reservation. Please note, you must present your valid coupon certificate at time of rental. Prepaid reservations will be refunded in full and no cancellation charges will be assessed.
If you would like to recreate your reservation, you may do so by visiting Avis.com or calling800-633-3469.
We apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may have caused. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.
This worked for me as of this morning, as far as making a reservation. However, Avis emailed me a little while ago to tell me my reservation has been cancelled but could be reinstated if I had the paper coupon I could present. Oh well, it was a speculative reservation anyways...
Pity. I could have used a free two-day rental. Oh well. I'm still doing pretty well with Hertz Weekender/XCT1 + AA ($13.49/day).
I received the cancellation as well, but they charged the $16 prepaid rental. Anyone get a refund yet?
Yikes. Prepaid on this? What were you thinking?
What's the big deal? The money will be refunded, either by Avis or by disputing the transaction.
I see no problem with it at all.
IDK going into this knowing that Avis could cancel all reservations (esp after it hit fatwallet/slickdeals) I wouldn't feel comfortable w/a prepaid. Prepaid to me, means you havent made alternative arrangements... of course you could have I suppose however.
I figured that it made it more like a valid contract since consideration was provided and they would've more likely to honor it. Regardless, I figured they would refund it if no rental was provided.
I figured that I would know before my late May rental so I never cancelled my original reservation that was not prepaid.
