OK, so Im a sucker for these machines... purchased my first Jura about 12 years ago and have since been hooked on these things. Some of the nicer/larger machines can be quite an investment, but I find they are worth every dime. Just ordered me a Jura Z9 TFT One Touch (in Piano Black finish)..... cant wait for it to get down here.... (drool)

Anybody else like their one home made Cappuccino or Latte with your own personal blend of beans...?

And pleaaazzeeeee.... no Nespresso  folk allowed in this thread... :p

I have a professional/industrial strength espresso machine at work and enjoy about 3-4 espressos over the course of the day.

A home I have a Nespresso machine, and I love it. I can appreciate that your Jura is probably better, but I am not sure that it's factor-10 better :)

Now if you'll excuse me, my conference call is over and I need to go make an espresso to survive the rest of the day.

I have one of these, works real good except when I go in the other room and get lost on milepoint and forget, and it burns the water and melts the gasket. Other than that its great.

I have a favorite roaster in Lucca, I bring their beans back to the states periodically.

I spend a lot of time each year in the province of Lucca, but I only get into the city once or twice a year.

Not only that but by having an Illy you pay homage to the inventor of the modern espresso machine, the Iletta in 1935 and pod-packaged coffee in 1974
    http://www.illy.com/wps/wcm/connect/en/company/innovation
Although I am, like Gaucho, a devotee of the Jura machines, both Nespresso and Illy pod machines are excellent solutions and have excellent coffees, IMHO. In my house we consume so much of it taht any pod system would be inordinately expensive. The master argument for the pods is taht is is great every time all the time and you don't need to fuss with all the cleaning and adjustments. Those are good arguments.

Just to respond to Gaucho explicitly, we have the following machines now:
    Jura: one C9, three E8, one C7
    Bosch: one VeroBar 600
Gargoyle specials: IIRC: five (these are the default option for making genuine Mineiro-style Brazilian brew. I prefer the espresso, but my mother-in-law and a couple other important people in my life insist on the Gargoyle specials.

Yeah, I'm the only one who drinks coffee in our household and I really like my Espresso. The Nespresso is drinkable, but not what I would call acceptable. The old Illy pods were also not even close to good Espresso.

But these new iper capsules are very different and makes just as good Espresso as the big, old expensive machine. And with my travel pattern and the fact that I don't put milk in my coffee, I fell for that machine and it works great.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a great Jura, it's one of the best brands out there, but I make 20-30 Espressos a month, that's it.

As a confirmed Jura addict I don't really think it is better than Nespresso or Illy. If Nespresso Ristretto is quite perfect for my taste. The Jura advantage is that I replicate the Ristretto taste for about 1/10 the price.
The correct response is: Sure, you pay $1500 for a machine taht speaks nine languages and then claim the beans are cheaper.
My counter response: yes, and I have a Tesla on order too. (note: not true, but I would if they were sold here)

That little exchange was to save you all the trouble of pointing out my obvious intellectual inconsistencies.:D

I also have several of these as every Italian girl does! (Or should). But I use that more when it's just me and the kitchen when I have company.

With that usage a Jura or another automatic would be constantly gummed up requiring serious maintenance. I just bought a Nespresso for my nephew for exactly the same reason as did you buy your Illy.
I never used the old Illy pods, although they were widely used in coffee bars in France. I think they were better there because they were fresh.
Even with Nespresso generic pods, the coffee is vastly superior to the nasty stale over roasted cheap beans they serve at *$. I absolutely will go without coffee before drinking that evil bitter stuff. It seems designed for cream, sugar and other pollutants not appropriate with real coffee.

Next time you go to the US, schedule a test drive. Then you'll know. I am so excited about it that I am seriously thinking of buying one just to drive when I'm in the US. That is insane, but...

To keep this serious... Im a huge Jura addict hence I would never want to have a Nespresso at my house. I will however say that the quality of the Nespresso juice is indeed excellent. Still, I prefer to have my own grind from my own blend and I just love the Jura machines themselves...... so its for me, a no brainer.

Your mother in law and those others are discerning, intelligent people. You need to listen to them more.

Luckily for me most of them are growing to appreciate espresso instead.
