Alaska partner and airline great, Emirates is going bold and starting a new route DXB-KBL. This is actually great for a lot of folks flying to Kabul (mostly Afghan ex-pats and/or CIA operatives), which means they no longer have to reply on those shady, non-efficient local carriers like Ariana, and Kam Air.

At 80,000 miles for a free coach ticket, that's steep...but usually prices to Kabul from the U.S./Canada is usually over $1,200 easily. So anyone looking to visit this poor warn torn capital can use some AS points to do so.

Uh...do premium class passengers get bulletproof vests instead of pajamas on those flights?

It will. It's existed for millenia and won't go away anytime soon. I actually like the place, or did...before the Soviets invaded.

Have you been to Kabul? Before 1979, it had some of the best gardens in the region ....competing with cities like Esfahan, and Shiraz.

Many times, all during the period 1974-1977. I became good friends with people from the Intercontinental and a few others. Some of them I still know today.
