The delightful city of Menton, almost on the French/Italian border, finally has been bestowed a second Michelin star for restaurant Mirazur. Major news in the Alpes Maritime culinary world. The innovation is that the chef is Argentine. Mauro Colagreco. Although the esteemed Mr. Colagreco studied in Argentina he apprenticed with Alain Passard, Alain Ducasse and Bernard Loiseau. From my perspective it cannot get much better than that!

Mirazur is worth the trip in my book, but since he only got his first star a short time ago he'll need to wait a civilized time to get the third star.

I dislike it so when a restaurant doesn't post a menu that actually describes items. I realize things change frequently at a restaurant like this so the least they could do is post a previous menu.

Perhaps jbcarioca has scored a menu and would be willing to scan and post it.

They could. That they don't does not bother me as much as it does you, but the absence of a menu makes it a harder process to decide what the restaurant typically does, so I agree it would be a good thing.

Colagreco basic training in Argentina was with El Gato Dumas.... perhaps one of the best known Chefs in Argentina who passed away quite young a few years ago. Before deciding to become a Cook, Colagreco studied economics for 3 years at the University of La Plata.

He is the first Argentine Chef to receive 2 Michelin Stars.

Aside from his restaurant near Monaco, Colagreco is the Ambassador for Rutini Wines outside of Argentina.

The local EZE restaurant scene is hoping that Mauro will choose a young protege, take him to France to train him and then open a restaurant in Buenos Aires... the hope is that Mauro would start splitting his time between France and Argentina... after all, he should normally have an "off" season in France.... although I dont know what this back & forth would do to his desire to advance in the star ranking system......
