Just a general question out there for you all... Now that we can't maximize our points with the VR's/GC's at OD for 5x do you guys still plan on/currently purchase the VR's from CVS? (I do know about the H.I. card at OD but I'm looking to keep it simple for now) I've been working on trying to come up with a plan of action now that all of my spends are done with my previous APP-O-RAMA. I'm thinking that if we have another planned trip in Europe it could be a good idea to use the Club Carlson card for the 5x points, especially when you use the points to book a reward night and basically get a BOGO... I would love to spread the love though as well. I do love those UR and SPG points too... oh decisions decisions... I guess at the end of the day it really comes down to what YOU value those points at and how much you are willing to pay for them.

    What are you guys doing?

I still max out at $5,000/mo VRs. If there are no spend requirements I'm trying to reach, then I'll use my Amex PRG card to help meet the $30,000 spend bonus. Other spend bonuses I look at are Amex Surpass ($40,000 for hilton platinum) and British Airways Chase (companion pass at $30,000).

Even at 1x points its worth it to me to earn MR or UR points. A small hassle but I have 6 CVS' on my commute, so I can always find VRs.

I use it on my DL AE to pad spend to hit $25k spend bonus for extra 10k MQMs. So $96 for 10k MQMs is a great mileage run! I usually only do $1k VR a month.

Has anyone tried it with the Club Carlson VISA? I'm wary of US Bank..

I've gotten about 3K with the wifes club carlson and no problems yet. Plan to do about 2500 a month with it from here on out. Other than that I'm trying to figure out which is the best card to use.

I put $1500 of my minimum spend on the Club Carlson Visa in a couple of of different transactions at CVS, along with a bunch of smaller transactions, spread over to two different billing periods. Paid the bills with a non-BB account. No problems so far.

Ditto. I've spent about $1,200 on the Club Carlson card so far, mostly being a $1k purchase at a CVS. I plan on buying REloadits this week at Winn-Dixie as well.

I use them to get me to $60k on my DL Reserve card for the 30,000 MQMs. Lots of value there.

Thanks! I just bought a few items and a $500 VR with the CC -- did you have any trouble or fraud alerts with a $1K purchase?

I didn't on the first one, but did get a fraud alert phone call after my $1k purchase last night. I talked to the lady and she said it was just because the card was new and it didn't understand my spending patterns yet. Once it did, then I'd be fine. I told her to expect more charges like that and she said that's cool.

No fraud alerts for me. I did maybe a dozen smaller, random purchases, $500 at CVS, paid the bill, more random purchases, then $1,000 at CVS to go over the minimum spend.

The Vanilla card game got a bit old with the stores entering all the info on their pads to discourage too many cards being purchased there. So, I am slowing down on this game and using it only for meeting the minimum spend requirements. Wish others buying from the same CVS stores would quit hiding them behind different stacks after every purchase.

I've heard stories of people taking home VR (unpaid) but then bringing them back to the store later to "purchase" and activate them...

Can't wait for the stories of people getting arrested for shoplifting. Perhaps they'll claim temporary insanity in their defense.

I asked them aren't they afraid of being caught for theft, they claim that it isn't because the VR has no value until they're activated.

I decided to leave the conversation after that

doubtful you'll go to jail for shoplifting a unactivated VR card...

i just find it selfish that people would go to such lengths to ensure their prosperity
