Are there any planes other than 757-200's when going to Hawaii from US

    Hello All,

I'm trying to plan a flight for myself and the family (group of 4 total) for next summer. It seems on my initial search that all the flights coming from inside the US to Hawaii seem to be 757-200's. For a variety of reasons, it would be nice to find a newer or better plane that might be going that way. I'm traveling out of Austin, so maybe I am just not picking the right city as a changeover to the long haul to Hawaii (I get most flights showing Phoenix as the hop to the island).

I'm pretty flexible at this time on the time and might be able to mix this with a layover in the US if it turns out certain cities are better than other (such as San Francisco, since we have family in the area, we could make the excuse to stretch out the vacation with a little visit.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes Hawaiian has 767 wide bodies from all/most of their US mainland gateways. DL also does a 767 from SLC many days. Direct from AUS to SLC on DL.

Also if you just don't want to be on 757, Alaska flies only 737-800s from WA, OR, and several major cites in CA (SAN, SJC, SMF, OAK, etc). No equip changes onto a 57 with Alaska. You can connect directly from Austin to SEA.

If you're trying to use US airways miles you're out of luck on their planes. United does do some wide bodies out of their hubs. Not sure if Hawaiian is a redemption partner for US.

UA is showing 777-200 on IAH-HNL and SFO-HNL in June 2013 (sampled 6/1 - 6/8/2013.) You can earn and burn US miles on UA metal.

Yeah staying away from those US planes is a good idea. I just did that trip earlier this year on their beat-up 752 and while the service was excellent, the product is indeed dated.

UA flies some 767's DEN-HNL also. There is a direct flight to Maui from Denver, but it is on a 757.

I think IAD uses 767s on their IAD-HNL route.

Yes, if he wants to route to the East Coast to go West (not that I haven't done it!) UA EWR-HNL is also a widebody.

If you don't mind earning more miles (and of course you don't, you're here :) ) you could consider flying AC. You'd route via Vancouver or Calgary, and if I recall correctly, the jets to Honolulu are 767s.

Can't route via AC to Hawaii if beginning from the US. It's a domestic flight and AC doesn't have rights for solely domestic routes.
