Are Skyclubs too expensive vs other airport choices like Gorden Biersch DTW?

$29 to bring my wife into a $kyPub (i.e. Skyclub) is just CRAZY! Delta really tossed AMEX under the bus with the high end Delta Reserve card by cutting the perk of being able to bring a guest or your family into the club last May 1st.
