Well, we skipped an October 2013 LEX DO, there seems to be quite a bit of interest in repeating in April 2014.

For those not familiar, what we have done in the past is go to Keeneland including breakfast on the backstretch (one of the most beautiful racetracks in the world), hit several nice restaurants during the weekend, consume some adult beverages, visit a horse farm or two (one of this meetup's attendees is in the "horse bidness" Mr Horse Business plans to attend and will do his best to line up visits to a mare farm (where he has a mama horse and usually a foal boarded) and a stallion farm where the action happens. ), tour one or more bourbon distilleries on the KY Bourbon Trail, and have a Saturday eve party/reception at the home of a local. We finish up Sunday with a big southern brunch at Stella's, downtown, and some folks go to Keeneland again, with LEX conveniently across the street.

Lexington is very easy to get around, but you'll need to have a car or share with someone. The airport tends to be a bit expensive to fly into, but Avios redemptions work well. Or you can fly into SDF (or CMH, DAY, CVG, etc.) and rent a car.

Party Central is the SPG 4 Points, a category 2 hotel on the north side of town. Low redemptions, near I-64/I-75 intersection, and a Waffle House across the street for those 1:30 am munchies.

Most folks will likely arrive Friday April 4th but a few will arrive Sat morning April 5th.

Here is the Youtube channel for Lexington, with some nice material:

All are welcome, you can attend as few or as many of the activities as you wish.

    Who is interested?

    I am, I am!

Although after checking around, I'm planning on staying at the Fairfield Inn. I've been eyeing this DO since last spring and am so looking forward to this.

    Thanks for the heads up.

This sounds interesting. I'm just a 3 hour drive down I-64.

Anyone is welcome to join us. This has always been a very fun meetup, so if you can, make the drive, we'd love to have you join us.

Edited to add: the 4 Points in Lexington has traditionally been the HQ hotel for this event but seeing as Lexington is not exactly a huge metropolis (so easy to get around), folks have stayed at the chain where they need stay credit/points.

I'm thinking of coming this year. Need to talk it over with my wife, who has shown low interest in the past to figure out if I'm on my own.

Yes, Louisville will be fine to fly into. About an hour drive from Lexington.

LEX is usually higher cost, the airports of SDF (Louvisvile), CVG (Cincinnati) being the closest main airports to Lexington. Perhaps even DAY (Dayton) might work.

    great news!
no worries, Lexington is small. You & @cocobird seem to both be Marriott folks. The closest Marriott to the host hotel (Sheraton Four Points) is the Fairfield Inn & Suites Lexington North(cat 4). This property is actually easy walking distance (50 yards maybe) from Four Points and if previous years drinking proves true again, walking distance is a good thing.

Next two closest cat 4 Marriott properties are: Residence Inn Lexington North & Courtyard Lexington North. Not walkable between these & Four Points.

If you end up with one of the newer cat 1-5 certs, Marriott Griffin Gate is a cat 5.

If I can drive down on Friday like I'm hoping, I'll make a stop at Sun King Brewing in Indianapolis as they have $5 growler refills on Fridays, so you'll be able to enjoy some beers then simply walk to your room.
Sounds very neat and something I plan to attend, just not on this weekend. Woodford only listed two dates but I'm assuming this will continue.

Woodford also has a group lunch, something we are exploring to see if it fits into the weekend. We need a larger space than the outdoor patio at Stella's (for brunch on Sun) due to number of attendees.

    Grandstand ticket update:

They are on sale now, while there isn't a rush, we will want to book these tickets eventually.

So that the group can all sit together, having one person book & pay for the tix is the way to go (& what we've done in past years).

Because life gets in the way of best laid plans, payment for the tix will be required prior to booking as other wise the organizer can be left in the hole. All details on the how & when will be provided later.

    Thanks,

    Willie

Will this work - arriving in Louisville, KY - SDF at 10 am, so noon arrival in the Lexington area?

As with most any weekend meetup, a person is welcome to join as few or as many activities as they wish.

Saturday will likely be visiting a couple distilleries followed by dinner at Billy's BBQ

Sunday will be a morning brunch followed by attending the races at Keeneland.

So if you did arrive on Sat, you will miss any Friday activities and breakfast on Sat morning but unless there is a bourbon distillery tour earlier in day on Saturday, you wouldn't miss much and would still have a great weekend. (plus chances are the distillery on Saturday late AM won't be in the Lexington area but in middle of state, so you could drive right from SDF to the distillery to hook up with the group).
