Check it out here, then let's discuss:
Pan American World Airways. How the flying public misses thee.

Well with the 787 out of service I don't think they'll be showing this safety video anytime soon.
Changing that would take about 10 minutes, tops.
I wish they'd release all the versions of the theme song as individual songs for us fans to enjoy. These safety videos have featured new compositions & I can only wonder where else they've played other variants.
I like the addition of the flight attendants. Most of it, of course, is still the same – with just a new music track. While I do love the classical version of "Rhapsody in Blue," I kind of feel like it feels a bit out of sync with the pace of the safety video. The film footage and voiceover for the safety demonstration is still at a tempo that works better with the jazzier version of the music they've been using for the past year. It just feels off to me to hear the fairly fast speech and see the quick camera transitions with a fairly slow portion of "Rhapsody" softly playing in the background. The music at the beginning and end is fine; it's just the portion that's behind the bulk of the safety demonstration that seems a bit off.
RIght, and most passengers wouldn't even notice that it's a 787 in the short clips of an aircraft flying at the beginning and end. Regardless, if they wanted to change it to a different type, they've already got footage that would be appropriate to use.
I am not excited about our new uniforms.
Granted I have been wearing the current one for 21 years but the pieces work on all body types. Dark blue is a better color and black is just black. And the new dress for the airport agents is ugly.
I had high hopes that we were getting something stylish and classic instead of basic and boring.
The uniforms are indeed disappointing, and a step down for the subsidiary Continental side of the house. The new United had an opportunity to introduce a touch of glamour into the skies, and it's a shamed the opportunity was not used.
Candidly, are there any airline uniforms out there that are exciting? How many variations of dark blue are out there?
I think most airlines, not just United, think first about the cost then the look of them second.
It's weird not seeing Japanese as the second subtitle language right now. (That's what Air Mike uses.) Anyhow, nice usage of Rhapsody in Blue.
Uniforms ... meh... Kinda disappointing after visions of what was to come from Cynthia Rowley with sUA.
As for the video, I never thought I'd say it, but I actually kind of prefer the previous music -- it was less competitive with the narration. In the intro/outro, I understand the point they're trying to make: "We're a global airline, and we take the globe seriously. I mean, have you seen our logo? It's a mother-fricking globe."
Domestically, I think Delta did pretty well. Internationally, Air France did well. But I guess, everything really does pale in comparison to Braniff's heyday uniforms.
Wow. I had this video on a 747 flight last Sunday and didn't really even notice that it was new - except I noticed the welcome and thank you's in Japanese, German, etc. And the brief 787 cameo. Really not a big deal.
The new uniforms are black for inflight and ground staff. The FAs do have an optional bright blue (think Pan Am) dress. The ground staff has this ugly two toned black/charcoal dress. The pilots are going blue.
I think black should be reserved for funerals and thus imho inappropriate for airlines. Then again, I basically own no black clothing or shoes.
Oooh, I can't wait to see that. My single regret about the UACO merger is that the combined airline was not called Pan Am.
I love a cute little black dress but these uniforms fail for my body type. Plus the ugly two-toned dress has a round neckline, which I dislike. Hanging the ID badges from around my neck would give me headaches. Our current V neck with collar dress allows me to hang my badge off my neck.
When do the new uniforms roll out?
What about Pam Ann? :-P
It's been all downhill since Braniff folded. Really except for Delta's reds everything looks the same to these days.

That would have been so cool.
Note to Dougie: if you buy up the Pan Am brand after you merge with AA, I'll totally become you customer. Doesn't really matter what else you do...

Around April (if everyone has received their basic order)
Had the new video on a flight this morning (IAH-ORD, operated by a 762). I also had the old video on my second flight of the day.
I wonder what decade Air Mike will get around to using this? They're still touting the value of the Continental magazine.
Have they even done much rebranding out there yet?
