Are there any sites like SeatCounter (used to be) where you can check seat (/award) availability on airlines worldwide, or within *A?

There had been a terrific site called "availability-publicbackup" operated

by someone that used the name "Shmutzig" or something like that

It went dead some months back & keeps a screen up as if it might return

I liked it much better than the other available seating sites

I won't use the "pay for" screen scraping operations hawked here

Looks like it might be up, but I get "invalid entry" whatever I put in, so I'm not sure

The sites being discussed were ALL inclusive & not only for 1 alliance

& not only for just the awards

This was using the same source that SeatCounter used. The source is dead and so it this tool.

Not entirely sure what you mean by this but if the implication is that they are reselling the data that someone else is paying to provide it is not accurate. EF has contracts with various GDS suppliers to provide the data that they publish to their subscribers.

If what you want is *A award inventory then ANA is still the gold standard. There are at least two ways around the issue of no miles in your account (just do an ANA-metal search first or use GreaseMonkey and this script: http://boardingarea.com/blogs/thewa...e-on-the-star-alliance-reward-search-problem/). Aeroplan (aka AC) and Continental also have a number of partners available on their sites but not all of them. On the plus side, they are generally better at building connecting itineraries.

If you want general seat inventory the tools at FlightStats are solid (http://www.flightstats.com/go/FlightAvailability/flightAvailability.do) and free after registration. And, there are the tools that I've put together, noted in the post just above (and in my sig).

Thanks Seth but what I meant was that any site where you have to "register"

has the ability to "data mine" from the registration information

Very sorry about losing the previously mentioned site

Wow...I cannot believe you would deign to participate in a data mine site such as this one or FlyerTalk.

Sorry but needing to register is a ridiculous reason to avoid any particular tool.
