Any banks in Chicago area accepting coin deposits smoothly?
Any grocery stores that would sell MOs on credit card?

Probably not exactly the same thing, but,Walmart will issue their gift cards, through a CC purchase. I use them (the gift cards) regularly to buy fuel at Walmart gas stations, where a 3¢ per gallon discount is given for using that gift card.

Interesting idea, but we need to process thousands of dollars regularly. One advantage of MO is that regardless of amount it is just a piece of paper that is easily deposited in your account.

Henry's idea about coins to buy MO is also interesting. Most stores are in fact happy to receive some change. Not sure how they would feel $1000 in coins. If we knew many such stores, each might not mind a one-time deal.

Perhaps less messy than taking coins to the bank.

po.stoffic.es and c.vs don't like the idea of buying MOs with coins.

if you are just going to deposit the mo, doesn't this just add one more step to the process without any benefit?

I guess if no bank whatsoever will take your coins you could do this, but otherwise tough to see any benefit. Just more room for things to go wrong!

po.stoffic.es and c.vs take pin-based debit card, but non non-pin debit card or credit card.

This is only if you are having trouble finding banks that take large amounts of coins or if "your" bank denies you.

    Makes sense.

I've gone to three separate banks (different banks, not just different branches) and not had any issues.

I live in Chicago. I have found harris bank is pretty good about taking coins, no questions asked. Plus their account was free to open and no minimums. I have found Chase is usually far to busy, so they get annoyed when you do that, but on the plus side they do have a separate window for business banking, so it wouldn't be too far fetched to have a ton of coins. (One trick is to get some rolls of quarters, dimes, and pennies, and mix them in with your deposit so it looks like it is diverse). Bank of America I would say is the worst because not all branches have coin counters, so they say they will have to have a truck pick up your coins, count them, and then credit you in a week.
