I have been teaching English in Japan for nearly 17 years now. Just curious to know if there are any other ESL/EFL teachers in the milepoint community?

It would be nice to have a DO correlate with a Tesol/Tefol conference someday.

I have a TESOL Certificate but am not a Teacher... I used to teach for one year at Gallaudet University.

I'm currently at Fukuoka University. I think that a lot of ESL teachers choose this profession for their love of travel and adventure.

If you are interested in a University position in Japan, here is a good place to search:

Not sure if they'd take a Deaf Professor =) I'd be interested in teaching American Sign Language overseas though.

I no longer teach but I have my IDELT - International Diploma in English Language Teaching (which is basically the US version of a CELTA) - and worked as an EFL teacher in Chile before transitioning back into the corporate world. Part of my position now is overseeing the in-house business English program I developed as my first assignment with my current company.

    お元気ですか。
    福岡は凄いですね!
    今教えてしない。住みませんね!

Well, I am still a good ESL student as well...

17 years, I guess you've became nihonjin by now. I am studying for three years now, but my Japanese would never be real Japanese, to omoimasu...

Yes, the original plan was for 2 years, but I've somehow stuck around for this long.

By the way, the best way to study Japanese is over an ice cold beer (or hot sake, depending on the season) at the neighborhood izakaya (bar and grill).

The locals sitting at the counter will teach you all that you need to know. :)

Any by the third drink, you will have the language mastered. :D

    毎週しております

That's exactly what we do every week in NY. After class, going to a resturant/bar/yakitori for a review session...
    エビスに乾杯!
