    All,
I see a $3K difference on booking LH tickets on LH flights, vs. UA tickets on LH flight.
Is there any downside (i don't need upgrades as I'm buying C?) - I think it's the same miles/1.5 etc?
    Thanks!

Certainly not $3,000 in difference. Take the less expensive ticket on the same flight!

Miles are earnt based on operating metal anyways, not booking code. And you're generally better off with the "native" code on a flight. Absolutely no reason to pay extra in this case.

Thank you! How many miles am I giving up by flying LH metal vs. UA? (not that i have a choice on this one).
Also - can you confirm i can still try and use a SWU to go C--> F on LH if I request a paper vert 2 weeks before the flight?
    Thanks so much.

For the earnings it depends on the Fare Class, check this out for UA or LH.

You can go from Business Class to First Class on Lufthansa as long as it's a valid fare class.

Earning is the same either way, though UA metal earns lifetime and LH metal doesn't.

WA - got it, thanks. Sucks and good to know ;)

I did fly back last month on the 747-8i and it was amazing in C. Services left something to be desired, but the seat and suite were amazing.

    Dreading my A380 first experience - and the angled C seats...Here's hoping it's just mis-set expectations ;)

    Thanks!

Was my post not helpful at all? I gave you some useful information from United that answered your question and didn't get any acknowledgement?

Make sure you get to the check-in counter 3 hours before the flight if you are looking to upgrade. This is important because a) the upgrades are basically processed first come, first served for a cabin that has a maximum capacity of 8; and b) Lufthansa will refuse to upgrade you if there are insufficient F meals boarded (and more to the point, if there is insufficient time to get catering to bring one to the plane and maintain an on-time departure) to ensure you'll get one.

Oh, and make absolutely sure the booking class you're buying will qualify for the GPU upgrade. As noted above, the less expensive Z fare business class tickets are NOT eligible.

I would assume with your flight being 3k cheaper on LH that it is probably a non SWU up gradable fare class. Make sure you get the fare class before booking.

Thank you all. I ended up going with Business (Z) to save $3K but as you said not eligble for C-->F,
Hope the seat on the 380 isn't as bad as they say :)
