I've got a minor stash of Alitalia miles that expire in March. I'm in the USA if that matters. Any ideas on how to keep these alive?

    Thanks in advance.

The obvious way is to credit a DL flight to AZ. How many miles do you have? Can you just use them for an award ticket you can use within the next year or so?

I tried to transfer one (1) Starwood point, but the Alitalia system would not accept it. Starwood claims my Alitalia number is bad, but I can log in with it so I do not know why it did not work.

Due to Italian law, every 5 years the AZ program expires. Typically then when they restart a new program the next day they give you an option to receive the number of miles that were in the old account as a gift/bonus in the new account if you meet a certain criteria (which can be activity, or buying back the miles for a nominal fee.

I think this year is the "5 year", so check their website and look for any details or offers.

I was told it's a government imposed rule for loyalty programs. Same thing just happened with Trenitalia, the train system loyalty program.
