I know that like the secret formula for Coke and CaraMilk bar the formula for the algorithm is classified Top Secret HOM.

Anyone know if posts quoted enters into the formulation of status points awarded?

The code breakers must hard at work here. [IMG]

I don't think so. My highly scientific and minuscule sample space in which I am quoted far more often than I am liked and my meagre score suggests not.

It also suggests I have knack for saying that which is memorable but not likeable.[IMG]

Yes, thank you. I quoted you. Do you?

I have not seen posts quoted as a criteria for getting status points, but I think it would be a good criteria between the rankings of likes and general posts, as another method of highlighting your contributions to the community, since even if you are quoted, then people are responding in either building community or correcting an error, both of which are extremely useful.

I would think they aren't counted. A quote doesn't necessarily mean you've contributed something positive or negative. It just means someone has something to say about your statement.

Which is, in itself, contributing to the conversation

I will quote you too just in case it ends up helping you [IMG]

I think as the forum grows, there will be conversations all over the place. We don't necessarily need to post quote to contribute to a conversation. I also don't know much about servers and algorithms but I would think it would be pretty intensive to keep track of post quotes as far as calculating status.

It is not that intensive (probably as intensive as tracking likes). Also, these servers are designed to handle a lot and as long as processor use is monitored, there should be no problem until the servers start getting old (unless this is on a good SAN at which point there is really no good reason for system resources to not be able to handle it at all)

Good to know. I guess we'll see huh? I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it counting. [IMG]

I doubt it. And I hope that in the future, points will be subtracted for excessive quoting [IMG]

another challenge for the programmers....to define excessive quoting....if variables keep getting put into the algorithm, the site will need a Cray Supercomputer

You realize that this would then become another game, figure out what the system counts as excessive quoting

They can add buttons to individual quotes to close them and count how often these are clicked. I think this would be pretty accurate, no need for a supercomputer [IMG]

I will attempt to quote you as much as possible in the future.

I too noticed that I am quoted much more than liked.

some times they do, some times they don't. As noted, the algorithm is dynamic and it grows and and contracts both on member usage and overall board dynamics. what might be rewarded today for your activities might be different next week. And all that doesn't mean a thing as we have relaxed the real algorithm during the beta as it was deemed more necessary to observe how the system works and as well expose members to some of the pleasant surprises that will come with contributing to milepoint. i'd say what you see now won't necessarily be the activity that acknowledges your contributions come March 1. while i do quite well in talking in circles without this topic, hope i'm doing well.

Thats why I usually use this one: [IMG]

Randy, you know as well as anybody that many of us here are trying to figure out/break the system, and then get things put into place that benefit our own personal situation. Its kind of the requirement of a mileage junkie.

So, how do you quote a post?

I have been copying them and doing it manually, but if there is a magic button to click, that would be a lot easier.

Click the "Reply" link next to the "Like" link of a post.

And you can quote multiple posts by clicking other "Reply" links associated with each post.

You should be able to hit the "reply" button on the bottom right of the post you want to quote and have it automatically populate.

Careful, though! Multi-quoting so far only works with quotes on the same page, so far. If you switch pages, it resets.

Typically, I would only link one quote. Usually I am more inclined to just want to quote part of a post. Is there an easy way to do that?
