The skies over New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport grow less friendly by the day. The New York Post reports being in position of a classified memo that reveals “astonishing security lapses,” among them an ‘unsecured gate on the fence that protects the airport’s main jet fuel supply pipeline.
The memo states that a worker, identified as Police Officer Joseph DeFelice, “found Gate 112 of the perimeter fence unsecured” at around 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday. DeFelice is said to have notified higher-ups and “then secured lock on fence.” The gate provides access to the Buckeye pipeline, which carries 8.4 million gallons of fuel daily through the city to the airport. This gate, the Post writes, was the target of terrorists who were busted in a 2007 plot to blow it up.

Gate 112 is also a key strategic location in the $100 million Perimeter Intrusion Detection System, which was in the headlines a week ago, after a jet-skier whose water craft became disabled swam to shore and scaled an 8-foot-high security fence undetected.

Sooner or later, the media is going to figure out that "airport security" only means giving the false sense of security at the checkpoints and not silly things like perimeter security.
