Actually, that is one of the rumors here. AC has several aircraft capable of the 5142nm flight, including the 767-300, both 777ER variants. The A330-300 just barely makes it, with a 5650nm range, but they'd certainly not use that on the route. I'd bet on the 767-300 if they do it, because that is popular for Brazil-NA flights anyway, so there is lots of support for them here.

Now we wait. I hope they do it. There are many Brazilians who do not wish to go through the US visa hassle and AC could be a good beneficiary for them.

With the future introduction of the 787, GIG will be a candidate.....

I have not thought much about 787 because of all the delays. By 2014 there should be a few of them on routes to/from Brazil. There will be more than a dozen new point destinations from Europe to Brazil then, with planning here, I asm told, including major increases in number of destinations for JJ, IB, AF, AZ, LH and others. The target is for nonstop Europe-Brazil service to each World Cup host city. That may be ambitious, but large increases for BSB, GIG,CNF, FOR, MAO, POA and a couple of others seem assured.

There is also expectation for new/increased services from Turkey, Russia, Qatar, Abu Dhabi and India, among others.

Part of the consideration seems to be reducing the demand for GRU which cannot meet existing domestic demand and is apparently not well situated for additional runways and handling infrastructure. GIG has more capacity now, and the new addition to T2 is almost finished and should open this August.

The big remaining question is whether GIG and GRU will be prepared for A380 operations. The same source tells me the hope is for KE and LH (probably 748) plus AF and EK to have A380 servicesto either GRU or GIG before 2014. The World Cup air support efforts are directed to Europe and Asia rather than NA.

This post basically repeats the discussions I have heard from people who allegedly know. The list grows with each rendition, just as critiques about slow execution of infrastructure improvements also grow. It is becoming quite interesting.

The India service that is being contemplatyed is DEL-JNB-GIG/GRU when the new 787s are delivered to Air India Fifth freedoms have been agreed making the route viable. If GIG then SAA will drop its midnight 4/wk to JNB and codeshare on this. If GRU then AI will be 3 weekly and SAA 4 weekly connecting to DEL with a new service JNB-DEL timed to match the AI service.
BSB is constrained by the small airport...nothing expected here except the possibility of an EWR/IAD service by *A (not TAM) to pick up government and diplomatic traffic on the route.

Have you any idea when that might happen? I suppose since it depends on 787 delivery that nobody knows. Thanks for the information.

Air India was a launch customer for the 787 Teh are trageting six months before the World Cup. I will have left Brazil byt then but fully intend taking that flight to come to Rio to watch my favourite team--Brazil! (70 per cent of Indians support Brazil in the World CUp, 16 per cent Argentina)

Nothing but we lost the Carioca by only penalties, of course to Flamengo, who else. Vasco of late has become the team of tomorrow and may always be that.

Vasco didn't lose the Carioca on penalty. They lost the Taca Rio. Since Flamengo won both titles (Taca Rio and Taca Guanabara), they automatically won the Carioca.
    Vasco hasn't won anything recently...

    With or without content? :p

Of all the airlines is the world, KLM is the one I hate the most. So don't expect me on any of these blue birds. But always good with competition.
It has been reported in Danish media, that the Minister of Business Affairs of Denmark is currently visiting Brazil, and on his agenda is lobbying TAM to start flying to CPH. An initiative I would appreciate!

With; of course. KLM is not my favorite either, but I do like the houses!

If JJ had the aircraft they might be interested. They have too little capacity on several existing routes, though, so I'd find it surprising were they to choose CPH. I am a CPH fan, so I'd like it, but I cannot see it happening anytime soon.
