Yesterday on a flight the FA broke into the PA to make a long, drawn-out announcement about what was available for purchase from the cart, and how to pay, etc. Very, very detailed.

Normally I just tune out this garbage, but I was trying to watch the (awful) movie on the (tiny and blurry) screen. They let the movie play the entire time of the announcement, but just cut the audio.

Don't they have the sense to pause the video when they start in on an announcement? Is it not possible, technically, on some planes?

Odd.....every time I've ever seen/heard that, the movie does freeze...

That's what I thought, but then again, I don't fly much on aircraft with the middle overhead screen, so I thought maybe I had forgotten. Clearly, since they want your attention to begin with, they'd get more of it if they pause the video. Instead, you're trying to guess what they're saying, which means you don't really take in the overhead message at all.

Tell me about it. I'm not sure if the Godfather made him an offer he could not refuse, or offered him some booze, or offered to tie his shoes?

I use to enjoy watching MSTK3K when my age was a few decades younger. (Old movies with bad dialouge)

For some reason that must have caused a habit within me to watch old movies on airplanes without earphones. I am not sure what movie you were watching and listening to but knowing what is available on the cabin screens it is quite possible it would have been more enjoyable making up the dialogue. Try it you might find it more enjoyable. At least for me it is.

    So true.

The unfortunate movie was "Morning Glory" which was so incredibly bad that I can't believe I wasted my time. The one conversation I missed was with the one actor I like, who is the father on "Modern Family." Harrison Ford, playing himself, essentially, was truly awful. Why can't older actors go out gracefully anymore?

[IMG] I know it would have been Indiana Jones speaking in my convoluted mind.

I wish. It was more like Indy post-stroke. It's hard to believe it's the same guy - except in that last IJ film.

I find movies on airplanes problematic to begin with. The movies have to be appropriate for an 8 year old. This results in dialogue being edited, and often scenes being omitted, often to the point that it is difficult to follow.

I suggest bringing your own movies on DVD.

The worst part is, Ford plays an aging TV newscaster who needs the money. He parodies himself in the most awful way. It's like he has no ability to see himself at all. Surprising, even.

Not AA specific, but I find repeated announcements during a movie ridiculously annoying. Especially when the announcements are given in 2+ languages. Worst is when the remaining flight time is juuuuust enough to finish the movie, but the pause for announcements forces missing the final scene.

Well, that wouldn't have happened here, since they just kept on running it.

They actually did add in a second movie (Social Network) afterward. I was a little surprised by that (too).
