UA 396 HNL-SFO on a 777 is delayed 15 hours and 15 minutes due to MX @ HNL. I don't get it...if the delay is that bad, why not just cancel the flight?

Kinda wondering if that involved bringing in parts and crew from another destination. I doubt that there was a replacement plane in HNL. And by cancelling, wouldn't the Airline be responsible for lodging of the passengers?
    In HNL?

That flight will end up being the non-rev shuttle to SFO with the current situation.
