This doesn't add to the confidence level right now, regarding the 787 and passengers.

Hopefully people see this for what it is, human error that is not related to the airframe at all. A bolt not being tightened is not really a 787 issue at all.

Thanks for your insights. I'm sure the press / people are sensitive at the moment on the 787 and the coverage reflects just this. In due time, with many positive news filtering through, the press and the people will warm towards the 787.

Perhaps there could be a sloppy design issue after all, based on the following description: ;)
Were those high power cables emmitting sparks due to poor contact?

I wonder how many maintenance issues there were that day on other non-787's around the world?

I don't see why ANA would even report something like this. Such an error can happen on any aircraft type by any maintenance worker. This is just a cheap shot at the dreamliner project. I say bring on the 787s to Europe.

But even stranger to me, it is in ANA's interests to keep something like that quiet. They're pretty heavily invested in the 787s!

I wonder if it was just a standard maintenance report where ANA appropriately reported the problem but then the press got hold of it and blew it out of proportion.

Honesty plays a part in all this perhaps?

I bet they leaked it on purpose to put pressure on Boeing to compensate them for the grounding fiasco.
