I'm not sure. Let's hope & pray that @timfrost is ok, as well as all who are currently being rescued.

Crash update: The train was going twice the speed limit through a tight curve, when it jumped the track. It was the same curve, where another deadly train crash happened >70 yrs ago.

Yes, as MX reported, it was going 100 mph in a 50 mph zone.

106 or 108, and the speed dropped to 102 when the engineer applied the emergency brake.

Rachel Jacobs, CEO of the startup apprennet is listed as missing. Seems like a very bright person with a wonderful future ahead of her.
    Lets hope for the best.

Abid Gilani, an executive of Wells Fargo, is among the deceased.

Sadly, she didn't make it. She used to commute to Philadelphia from NYC and called her husband a half hour before the crash. The funeral will be Monday in the Detroit area.

I do not work that run; I work LAX-SEA and LAX-SAN, SBP, SBA. Thank you for thinking of me.

That being said I know the engineer personally and am heartbroken on behalf of the crew, the passengers, and the loved ones and friends of those involved. I think that goes for all of us here at Amtrak. It is very difficult to watch the media circus surrounding something I know so well, as it often is for aviation enthusiasts when planes crash. It is extremely disconcerting to see so much misinformation being spread so quickly. At this point I trust the NTSB and their statements and reports, but essentially nothing else.

I hope for a speedy recovery for the injured and a swift and fair investiation.

    Glad you stopped by!
It's always a good reminder to keep an open mind until the end of the investigation.

What a horrible accident. My heart goes out to all of the injured, and to the families of those who were killed.

I hope the cause can be found, so no similar accidents will occur in the future.

Good to read your post, it could have been mechanical, I agree.

It would be good for the engineer to speak up, but I am sure his Attorney is telling him not to speak.

I am sure no one would try to take the curve at twice the speed, a lot of work and time goes into riding in the front of the train....28 years is a great safety record.
