Presumably could be combined with separate tickets to PHL/WAS/etc. or with the 2-for-1 offer on the Downeaster service to NH and Maine. Rules say the fares are not valid to/from intermediate cities, but I've never known Amtrak to care about hidden city ticketing. :)

New York City and Boston - $37
New York City and Providence - $32
New York City and New Haven- $20
    • Exclusively available at

    • Offer does not include travel to/from any intermediate cities.
    • Once purchased, tickets are non-refundable; exchanges are permitted prior to the original travel date.

The only "hidden city ticketing" trick I am aware of at Amtrak is if you wish to book a long distance train over the NEC or other places there are short distance services. Normally trains continuing south of WAS won't allow you to book tickets for any destination WAS or North, but sometimes these trains have lower fares. The trick is to book your ticket to ALX, and just leave the train at WAS. There is however no way around this on the way back - if you don't board the train at ALX, you are marked as a no-show (just like any carrier) and your reservation is canceled.

For example, tomorrow the fare is $174 NYP-ALX on every train except the Silver Star and Silver Meteor. The Star is $153 for coach, and you can actually get a roomette for $159, but as that train is running without a dining car your lunch wouldn't be included. Fast forward 4 hours and the Silver Meteor is $127 for coach for the same segment, and that train has a full-service dining car. You can book your ticket for $127 and have a steak dinner and bottle of wine for less than the NE Regional base fare.

However Amtrak has no specific rules regarding hidden city ticketing that I am aware of. You don't show up, we just cancel your ticket. No love lost. I don't think it has any negative impact on AGR members either.
