Sorry if this is a dumb question - The points that I earn from this card is transferred over to my SPG Rewards program. From there, can I transfer those points into United's MileagePlus program? I ask because AMEX and Continental/United does not have a relationship any longer, but this does not apply correct?

You are correct that the Starwood program is independent of the fractured Amex United relationship. You can make a transfer but it is 2 starpoints to receive 1 United mile. This is not a good exchange rate.

I did apply for the AMEX HHonors Credit card to get the bonus and points toward Hilton stays and/or transfer those points to United.

    Thanks,

The best use of Starwood points is LAN, which is equivalent to 2LANkilometers per 1 starwood point.I just transferred 20K starwood to LAN, which amounted to 50K since every 20K transferred, SPG will add an additional 5K. So 25K Starpoints = 50K LAN kilometers. Just booked my SCL-IPC using my 20K SPG points (50K LAN). This route normally costs 75K with AA miles or 75K Starwood points if transferred to AA.

Great tip! Didn't notice that LAN awards were 1:2.

As others have said, SPG transfer ratios to United aren't a good value (2:1) but they can be done.

You will get a better deal transferring from the Chase Sapphire (1:1) if you have the card. I believe there is still a 50k sign up bonus floating around.

According to Gary on viewfromthewing.com that is no longer available. It is now 40,000 UR points after $ 3,000 spend in the first three months.

    EDIT AT 3:43 PM EDT

I found this on TOBB. It may help someone.
