My Starwood Preferred card expires in a few months

    Before then.....................

    1. I would like to refer my spouse for the card,
    2. My spouse would make the spend & receive the points,
    3. I would then add (link) my spouse's bonus points to my Starwood points account
    4. I would like to cancel my card before the annual fee is due
    5. I plan to keep the points from expiring by redeeming them on occasion

Is this workable??? Any info will be appreciated. ~Thanks

Just make sure she applies sooner rather than later so your referral points post. It will definitely work.

Do not forget to move the points, AA will get you 1.25.

SPG is a great card...they did move the spend to 30k for Gold.

Oh! I thought that according to Starwood's and AmEx's terms and conditions, my points won't expire as long as I have any SPG account activity within a 12 month period (ie transfer, burn points etc) The requirement is that I'm still an active SPG member, not on whether I still have the Starwood credit card.

Do I really have to keep the credit card active to keep the points???

My SPG point are used for AA International travel, most are given away.

If it help you great, if you can move then to your spouses card that is also a good idea.

The AA gives you 1.25 if that helps.

Once activity on your SPG account once every 12 months. No need to only have the credit card to keep your Starpoints active.

Starwood Preferred Guest: Points expire after 1 year of inactivity. Use points, transfer points, or earn new points in order to reset the clock at least once per year
