Here is the link to search for rates/amenities as part of the Amex FHR program:
www.americanexpressfhr.com - You must login to your Amex Platinum or Centurion account to search.

I do wish Amex would roll out the online booking to UK Plat cardmembers - calling PTS is a PITA....

I agree, the link above does not work for me. Logging in with my amex password, it denies me access.

"Unfortunately we are only able to serve our US-based sustomers at this time. "

I have the Canadian Plat card and have never made a booking using it yet because phoning in is too much trouble.

Why not try a Virtuoso agent? Probably much easier and definitely less of a pain.

I've been doing a bit of both - using DavidO for a few hotels on a forthcoming trip - his rates were definitely more competitive than Amex for hotels which were in both Virtuoso and FHR.

It has definitely been my experience that Virtuoso rates are at least competitive with FHR, and often better. Rates aside, the service (and personal attention) is almost always better.

Definitely getting great service from DavidO - far more personal than Amex. On the rates front, I now benchmark Corporate rates from Megabank, FHR and Virtuoso - it can be a real mix depending on the property as to which route offers the best value. But looking forward to our first Virtuoso stay in March!

Both Virtuoso and FHR seem decent to me. I know that the big selling point of Virtuoso is that you have someone helping you, but I sure like being able to do FHR online.

I agree that the convenience of booking online is great, but with a great Virtuoso agent you have the advantage of them calling the hotel on your behalf (which often leads to a better upgrade or extra amenity).

No platinum 'amenities.' which often mak things a great deal. here' a couple of my past bookings through FHR:

    Ritz Carlton Denver
    ~$80 a night
    Included:
    - Upgrade (upon availability - we did get one).
    - $75 Food Credit at the Elways on site.
    - Free breakfast.
    - 4PM Checkout.

    Vale Cascade
Usually right around $100-130 a night - i've stayed there around 20 times.
    - Ski in-Ski out with ski conceirge (they take and hold onto your ski's, boots, etc. Then while skiing keep your regular shoes warm).
    - I get the free upgrade 9/10 times. My room is usually the same one, within a 2 minute walk of the ski-conceirge (5 minutes from leaving my room and i'm on the lift).
    - 4PM Checkout (and they give ya an extra half hour to get off the slopes, which close @ 3:30 if needed).
    - Free breakfeast. (Order whatever wanted, charge to room, they remove the charges).
    - $85 meal credit for dinner. (Also good for room service).

    Banyan Tree Phuket
    $350/night
    - Buy a night get a night free.
    - $100 meal once per 2 nights.
    - Free Double Upgrade (from regular villa, to jacuzzi villa, then to Deluxe Villa with Private pool).
    - 4PM Checkout.
    - Half off spa packages.
    - 20% off all purchases within resort/sister resorts.
    - Free Breakfast.
This was one of the nicest hotels i've ever stayed in.

We had 2 villas for around 10 nights, so we get 5 free meals each (10 total). Both villas were double upgraded.

Virtuoso bookings come with special amenities as well - usually similar. See below:
    Virtuoso Amenities:
    Upgrade (upon availability)
    - $100 Spa Credit
    - Free breakfast

If booked with a RC STARS agency (which some Virtuoso agencies are)
    - 4pm late checkout
    - Highest upgrade priority
    - Extra, personalized amenity or service

    - Upgrade at time of booking (2011 promo - usually at check-in)
    - Daily Breakfast for 2
    - Spa Amenity Gift Basket
    - $50 Spa Credit
    - Late check-out not listed (but should be easily arranged by TA)

Above amenities were a special promo (which sounds wonderful).
    Currently FHR provides:
    - Upgrade (if available)
    - Breakfast
    - 4pm late checkout
    - Dinner for 2 (excluding alcohol, tax, and gratuity)
    Virtuoso amenities:
    - Upgrade (if available)
    - Breakfast
    - Roundtrip airport transfers (for up to 4pax)
    - Lunch for 2 (same exclusions)

The bottom line is that the Virtuoso and FHR amenities are usually similar - sometimes one is slightly better than the other, and sometimes a property might belong to Virtuoso but not FHR (or vice versa). Some properties will also adjust the Virtuoso amenities for an FHR client if they prefer those amenities (restaurant vs. spa, etc), but that is entirely at their discretion.

The real benefit of booking with a Virtuoso TA is the power of a real person who can/will call the manager or sales director on your behalf to ensure you are treated like a VIP.

It would be great if Amex in Aust would provide an online booking system. I like the convenience of being able to browse online and see prices and availability without having to ring them up. It is particularly convenient if monitoring price / availability over a particularly busy or popular time.

Maybe PTS FHR is comparable with Virtuoso, but CTS of course gets you better benefits. The major one for me is one free night per year at MO's. I've used this many times across Asia, as well as all but one of the MO's in Europe. It has saved me many, many thousands of dollars.
