No FX fees will help me use my card again, and Bingo is a very nice additional step. Until FX fees were dropped I planned to drop my card. Next, any chance of adding GoGo? That would really make the deal more convincing for me due to inflight use.

I wonder how many SPG card users are not already Platinum so have free internet and club access anyway? Maybe more than I would think.

The only good thing I see from this change is no foreign transaction fees. Now I might use the card more outside the USA.

My wife for one who charges about 25k a year on her card. We can combine our points and she can stay at the Luxury Collection properties she loves and I refuse to pay for.:)

Thank you, the above bolding are substantial improvement that will personally move some of my stays towards Starwood properties both domestically and internationally. This will also stop me from canceling my last SPG AMEX card (Business SPG Amex OPEN Card) going forward.

Thanks again for keeping up with the times! :)

Maybe Hilton will get the hint and lean hard on AMEX to also offer the HH AMEX Surpass card without FX fee ;)

Mostly this makes the card worse for me, and more expensive.
No FX is nice...but I have a ton of other cards with this so not one that justifies the fee increase
Free boingo is nice...but I already have this
Premium in-room internet is nice, but I already have this as a plat, and if anything adding more people to the premium offering might make the connection more crowded and slower.
Club lounge is nice, but as a Plat I already get this...and now there will be bigger crowds and possibly a diluted offering on account of that.

So 30 bucks extra annual fee, for a product that makes my situation no better and possibly worse? Boo to that. How about a discount for platinums as we're clearly subsidizing non-plats if we hold this card...I've held the card for a while, but may need to cancel it at this point.

Did anybody notice it said the Sheraton club lounge access for OPEN members (ie The SPG business card)? but gee $30 is going to make some here cancel the card?
I put to you perhaps you should really not have had it the first place. :)

The elite nights have some marginal perceived value, but usually don't end up mattering. The card is decent for spend, but without any bonus categories when a lot of my spend is on travel, dining, etc. which other cards with nearly as valuable points have aggressively bonused.

Exactly I just within the last 2 weeks saved $60 for using the card through those offers at merchants I normally shop at anyway (Whole Foods, Total Wine and another I cannot recall now)..." poof" goes my annual fee:D

No sir, no wasted time here as there is NO need for GCs from S&F!

As a family of 4 we can use their groceries and by the end of this month we will be saving $225 (multiple cards) from the S&F offer alone! And the AMEX Sams.com was also great and we got several Starbucks, IHop, and Panda Express GCs for pennies on the dollar!

I don't think I got the S&F offer on any of my Amex cards. I did recently save $5 on Chevron gas. Whoopie. (except that my local Chevron station has the world's most expensive gas, so probably really more $3 or so)

In general, they seem to target me with all kinds of B&M stores that don't exist in my neck of the woods (like S&F) or online stores that I have never heard of. The latter probably intentional since I assume this is funded by the stores as a marketing campaign to get new customers, and not by Amex to reward me for doing something I would be doing anyway.

If I were you, and I had used the card for significant charging over the last couple years, I'd call and ask for something as a "re-up" bonus.

If you've been a good customer, they may toss in extra points or a statement credit. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I don't feel the extra benefits are worth the $30 extra. I'll probably drop the card when the $95 fee is due next year. Would have been nice if they changed the $30K spend to get Gold to getting a night credit for each $1500 spend. If they offer a no/low fee version like Amex's regular Hilton card, then I'll sign up for it. Here's what I'd like to see for a no/low fee version:
    1. Same point earning as the current card
    2. No forex fee for spend at Starwood Hotels
    3. 1 night credit for each $1500 spend.

I love point 2+3, they should put you on the Amex SPG advisory board.

Lifetime SPG Gold here. I made Platinum a few times, but won't make it again in all likelihood, and LT Plat is way out of reach at this stage of my career.

I have the AMEX SPG Personal Card, AND I don't think its fair to charge the same $30 more for each card when the Bus card get more perk. I called Amex they said take it up with SPG. I called SPG Corp and the said take it up with Amex.

I'll likely cancel when my renewal comes up unless retention comes through with an offer I cannot refuse. Since I am good through next March I doubt that I will do anything now.
The benefits are of little value to me. Because other cards offer double and better points that match part of my spend pattern, Starwood has already lost that spend. I have other Amex cards with Boingo, no FOREX, etc. Think I am going to change loyalties as of January 1.
Which is better for accruing and using credit card points-- Hyatt or Hilton? Which is the best card for hotel points?

I'm guessing if you're going to get love from anyone here, it's AMEX, who's hurting from the loss of Costco.

Best depends on what you are looking for...i'd suggest looking at Redemption rates and availability of interesting properties. Then look at earn rates and figure out what makes the most sense. Depending on your patterns either (or spg for that matter...seems silly to declare the card to be no longer worthwhile without having an idea of the value of moving the spend elsewhere.) could be the "best".

    My SPG Amex spend history:

    2010: $14,000
    2011: $5,000
    2012: $4,300
    2013: $6,200
    2014: $3,300
    2015: $1.05 (no typo)

This card needs to go. I doubt they'll offer me anything when I call in a few weeks :)

Can someone help me out a bit with the Boingo feature? I went to their webpage to see locations, but unless I am missing something, I am not really seeing the benefit on this one. Do they offer in-flight WIFI, or is that just gogo? I may be in a unique situation as I use my corporate-provided mifi hotspot when I travel, so maybe this does not apply?. Or are there other benefits that I am not aware of? Thanks.
