The Association of Professional Flight Attendants said Wednesday that 211 furloughed flight attendants, the last furloughed American Airlines flight attendants still on furlough, are being invited back to their jobs.

This will be the first time in 11 years that American will have no flight attendants on furlough, since just after the 9/11 attacks.

The union attributed the recall to an “extraordinary response” to a voluntary early-out program that opened up Monday, fewer job cuts planned in a new contract, high numbers of flight attendants on sick leave and increased training because of the new contract.
The new contract, approved by APFA members Aug. 19, requires more flying each month by the average flight attendants. But, the union said in its message to members Wednesday, those productivity improvements will take time to implement.
