American Airlines starts NBA-linked promotions

    A Facebook contest and free airline tickets are among NBA Finals promotions that American Airlines announced Wednesday to build the buzz around its name on the two arenas hosting the basketball championships in Miami and in Dallas. Here are the three promotions offered:
    The "All American Airlines Shoot Out" is a social media game can be played on Facebook and Internet-ready mobile devices that allows users to shoot baskets for either Dallas or Miami. A total of 10,000 single-use discount codes will be given to fans who register, including 100 codes worth 50 percent off their next flight to or from Dallas or Miami.     Watch Party Promotion: American is launching promotions during the games and official watch parties. The first one took place during Game 1 in Miami. Two fans were selected to win tickets for themselves and a guest to "Fly Away" to Dallas for Game 3.

    AAdvantage "Around the World" Promotion will take place during Game 2 in Miami on Thursday and Game 3 in Dallas on Sunday. One fan will have a chance to win AAdvantage frequent-flyer miles by making a variety of shots. The fan will start with a layup (worth 12,500 miles), then shoot a free throw (worth 30,000 miles), a three-pointer (worth 50,000 miles) and a half-court shot (worth 100,000 miles).
