American Airlines expects to add more seats to some of its planes, which could mean less leg room for passengers.

The airline's parent company, AMR Corp., disclosed the move in a regulatory filing Wednesday.

Airline vice president Lauri Curtis says American officials expect to add seats on Boeing 737 and McDonnell Douglas MD-80 jets. But she says they haven't decided how many seats and how that will affect American's revenue.

Lets hope this isn't an alignment with the F8 configuration on the A319's.

Let's add more seats. Don't care where or how or how many, but I am going to announce that while you still figure that all out.

    Really?

We are losing 4 seats in F, it is going to be tough upgrade for people at AA hubs.
I am glad not many Exp from SFO and SJC yet now..

And as a further cost saving messing there is a handwritten paper sign at the boarding gate for the commuter flight SAN to LAX

    Several possibilities:
    1) Remove 1 row from first, add 2 rows in coach - first 2 or 3 rows would be MCE
    2) Configure the 738 to match Delta's config (16 First/18 Econ+/126 Econ)
    3) Copy Delta's plan to shrink the lavatories (as if they can get even smaller) and add 1 row in the back of coach
    4) Add 1 row to the MCE section which reduces MCE to exit and bulkhead rows
    5) Some combination of the above

If the A319 config is any indication, I would bet on option 1 as most likely.

I am already missing upgrades on afternoon transcons so reduction in F seats will likely force me back to UA.

Well if we're just going to make stuff up about what might happen, I'm going to go with bunkbeds.

I have often wondered why the airlines do not add bunkbeds. Remove the carryon space and add beds. Not possible on regional crafts but on bigger ones, there is enough space I think.

I am waiting for the MD-80's to be fitted with the fold down seats that eliminate the aisle like in Mexico and the Caribbean. That way you could have 6 across seating on a MD. and add about 30 more passengers.

And since the aisle is no more, they can remove the lavs, and the flight attendants would have a reason to camp in the galley since they can't move down the aisle.

    Yuck.
