I tried to read all the small print on their website (https://giftcards.aa.com/) and didn't see anything but does anyone know if/how the merger will affect the status of gift cards purchased through American Airlines (or US Airways for that matter).

I was thinking about purchasing one and want to make sure it'll be valid in a year or two or three.

    Thanks in advance,
    R

    Not sure.

But, why would you want to buy an airline GC now for use more than a year hence?

It always says no expiration date.

Gift cards have no expiration. I am sure they will be honored. However, I also agree that absent a significant discount, there is no reason to stock up on those.

Only thing I can think of is running out of ways to make minimum credit card bonus spend.

Ding ding ding!We have a winner!

Exactly. I don't live in the US and this can be a real problem for me sometimes.

And if I can score a small discount from a seller online, it's even better.

American has two types of gift cards. The electronic one of course has no postage fees, but the plastic one does. I would highly recommend not buying one unless you will use it shortly. If you buy an electronic one and someone is able to get the number and the pin, you will have one heck of a lot of work to get reimbursed if you ever do.

What I do to add a little points bonus to every AA flight is purchase gift cards through the HHonors Mall. This will lead you to gift certificates .com @ 2points per USD spent.

One small note on the HHonors Mall is that you can't find the merchant by using their search feature in my experience. You have to click "Browse Merchants", then click "G". Once taken to the merchant site, I purchase a "Super Certificate" which I then have emailed to me and that I can then redeem for a physical AA gift card sent through the mail.

Sounds confusing. Why can't you buy AA gift cards directly the first time?
