Some of my bookings have this in the notes that appear on checkmytrip

    Notes
    RETENTION

    Does this mean anything?

Could it be referring to automatic seat retention?

    Could mean anything.

I've seen some odds notes in my bookings over the years.

In my award booking from BD I had the note "YO PAX".
But... I wasn't saying "yo" to the call center agent [IMG]

I think it means that the PNR will be kept even after you have flown the last leg.

Maybe has to do with rebookings/cancellations or with market research.

If you are using a travel agent it means they are entering an OTH (other) segment in the PNR. Sabre, Apollo and others use the OTH segment, other GDS may use somehting similiar.
Once your trip is flown it normally will fall out of the GDS within a couple of days so the record locator can be recycled. Many TA's use this OTH segment at your last segment plus 60,90, 120 days. This preserves the history of the PNR in case of any issues and means they don't have to go back to the GDS and get micro fiche copies of your record.
