Am I the only one finding MP threads hard to read?

I am just back home and catching up. I was perusing FT and MP.

I find it easier to read FT although the technology and the mood is much better here.

I just can't put my finger on what it is about the MP threads that I find difficult to read. Perhaps it just takes time to adjust to a different environment.

    Any thoughts?

Actually I am finding the opposite ... I dropped into FT today and found I could not navigate around! How quickly things change. I am liking alot of the features on MP like being able to go quickly to the quoted post. Now if I could not back to the original quickly it would even be better. But no I am not noticing any issues navigating and reading threads.

Now that I am used to MiPo, FT seems a bit antiquated to use.

That is what I am finding ... it took a bit of acclimatization on my part, but I do like the features afforded to us here, and am looking forward to more being turned on. Now so we are on the same page ... MP, not MiPo ;)

I just look at FlyerTalk last night first time in couple weeks. I do feel the site FT is dated. I do like what I see on MilePoint site so far. I am sure Randy and the Dev Team have some things in mind to add to MP site. :)

If the quoted post is on a separate page, then the usual method (browser back button, previous-page key (if you have one) or Alt+Left-Arrow (if you are on Windows)) will take you back to the original.

If it just scrolled up on the same page, though, then you're out of luck: the browser does not track the two posts as separate pages, so there is no going back. :( It'd be possible to solve it using a button in the MilePoint tool/status bar at the bottom, though, I think.

The one confusing thing is when you post a reply to something that isn't on the last page of a thread- your post initially seems to appear at the bottom of that page, rather than at the end of the last page. There is an interesting logic to that; it's just that it's different from what we've encountered elsewhere, so it takes getting used to.

Oh, and the big graphic sig lines can be disruptive, but that will settle out. Just arrange you sigs so they look beautiful graphically, rather than going for a random roller coaster effect.

I do like the "there are more posts do you want to see them" option however when you do post a reply and there are many other posts in between - better for me than just going right to the bottom ... in the end I still think a better interface.

yes, it's just different. something to get used to, and once we do, it's hard to go back to the old way of doing things.

I actually find it easier to read the stuff here. But then I'm older
and nearer blindness than most people.
You have to be used to it only for a few minutes, though.

Absolutely. When I respond to a post during a catch-up, and get taken to the end of the thread a la FT, the "first unread" jumps to the end of the thread. Here, first unread stays with you and it is easier continuing on.

maybe because there's a lot more white space and less defined borders between posts?

I also like, since it was brought up above, the ability to hide sigs if I want. While my sig has a number of graphics ("Flare"), some of them have been reduced in sized from the more garish jumbles of sizes you may find.

Flare is a matter of taste, but it shouldn't lead to clutter.

Yea... may we all keep our flare tame.

    Hi,

Having been ad free on FT for a long time, I need to adjust to posts being shrunk in width to make space for ads .... I'm sure I'll grow over it.

You can use something like AdBlock in Firefox or once you get to 1000 status points you see no more ads so there are options here.

Hmm, "keep our flare tame"? Should that extend to avatars also? I think your avatar almost poked my eye out... [IMG]

I find MP is much easier to read and I'm on a 17" laptop. I'm currently taking donations for LASIK surgery.

For a long time, FT was the only BB I had ever seen--and it's quite sterile from a visual stanpoint. After I left FT, I started spending a lot of time on different websites and became accustomed to a lot of different styles and looks, some very clean and some very messy.

Over time, I have become quite adept at editing out that which is of little interest to me, and learned to appreciate different looks and approaches. It's all good. :)

I find MilePoint more appealing even on my 12" laptop. I do prefer it on my big monitor on my desk, though ...

My desktop died a slow and miserable death last October, nearly six years to the date I bought it, and the HP laptop was the replacement. I wish i could have held off for the new Mac Pro.

for the deal discussion threads, I found the wiki feature on Slickdeals forum very helpful, especially when the thread gets ridiculously long. People can put their updated information right below the OP, which is so much easier to catch up.
