I've been around travel bulletin boards since the old Prodigy days. After they closed shop, I joined Flyertalk in 2000 and Milepoint back in 2011.

Suddenly, now that my wife is retiring, she's worried about miles and points. Turns out, she was listening to me all these years and I didn't have a clue. :p

She's worried that we won't have the miles and points (thank you devaluations) to travel in the style shes become accustomed to. ;) I have enough miles to last 3 years flying internationally (up front). I'm low on hotel points, but there's always the option of converting my Chase ultimate rewards into Hyatt points (still worthwhile).

I don't mean to ramble, but when did your husband/wife/spouse/s-o finally get it?

Flew ORD-PEK in the back of the plane.
    Flew PVG-ORD in the front.
... bingo - the light went on. ;-)

Mine was a trip to London from TUS for $800 RT for both. Plus we flew Business back from LHR by using miles for the upgrade (only 10K back then). Oh yeah, did the Gold Challenge with AA on the trip and we both were gold for about 16 months. and we upgraded to First several times including on the AA 777 from MIA to DFW (plane continued on the LAX)
Unfortunately that was back in the early 2000s and now we are lowly plywood. But have not had to pay for a flight for three years.

When we retired because she then realized we have the time to travel and make mileage / segment runs that were actually fun.

Typical example for an early Dec trip -- FNT-DTW-TPA spend a few days doing things outside and then come back TPA-DTW-FNT.

and when we go on a trip we don't have to go out last flight of the day and get up before dawn to get the first out in the morning on the way home

    <LOL>

My wife gets it now, but she doesn't like the easy way to accumulate points (aka new credit cards). She doesn't complain when we fly/stay for "free" though. :p

FWIW, there's a pillow conspicuously placed on a chair in a financial advisor's office near my office. It has embroidered on it:
"Always travel first class. Otherwise your heirs will."

My wife is Chinese, first trip over in the back, after we got married, she returned in the front, we even bring her sister over in the front.

We both apply for the cards, many of her friends do the same thing, they all want to go back home to see the family.

My wife remembers an envelope stuffing campaign I enlisted her for. I don't actually remember when it was (or what it was for) but I'm guessing it was more than 5 years ago but less than 10. In her words, "I must have believed in your craziness if I stuffed all those envelopes."

My wife certainly enjoys the luxury upfront but there's no way she will ever get as excited as I do about the whole process and experience. But as others have said, even tho she's retired, she worries about me retiring and losing my access to points/miles that the office provides us with! All good - she also doesn't understand my devotion to golf!

My husband caught on fairly quickly, but the Cathay business lay flat bed and lounge pretty much did the trick. It took him less than 6 months to suggest independently doing things like stopping at the 3 letter drug store and Wally World. I keep track of the details of it all and he is slowly learning more and more. It has been a lot of fun and it has encouraged him to travel a lot more since he enjoys the added comfort both in planes and properties.

From the other side, my husband now willingly loads my BB at Walmart and will ask any cashier if he can buy VR with his credit card. Even though I manage all the travel and credit cards, I still hate dealing with cashiers.

Probably one of the Kellogg's 5 certificates for 500 miles promotions of the mid-2000s. If it was within the last 10 years, it wouldn't have been the Healthy Choice promotion (of Pudding Guy fame) that so many of us got carpal tunnel on from filling out the certificates and addressing the envelopes.

That's the best justification for spending the money yet.

I say that as a member of a childless couple.

It wasn't Healthy Choice and it wasn't Kellogg's. I did Kellog's, but before we were married. It sucks to get old and not remember such things!

Four years ago, after we were married for a short time and, of course, I was always traveling for work, we boarded our flight from MIA to CDG and sat in J the nose of the lower level of the 744. The minute her butt hit the seat, she smiled. The minute the food and champagne began to flow she said she understood!

When we flew Cathay Business to Hong Kong and SIN 2 years ago, and home from Italy last year in J.
My husband now willingly gets new credit cards (but still complains about the risks of getting so many and the visa/amex prepay cards).

My husband I realized finally got it when we managed to fly the whole family (4 of us) to Florida and back twice in a year and he finally agreed 6 months ago to get a credit card (he always used debit before..argh!) and I even got him to sign up for the chase freedom offer yesterday! I haven't gooten him into MS yet but he seems to understand what I am doing.
