    Hi all,

I was told all the cars are sold out during our stay Dec 27 - Dec 30. I checked all the travel websites (priceline, expedia, travelocity etc.) , all the major companies' websites (hertz, enterprise) as well as local agent (discounthawaiicarrental), but no car found.

I was wondering if there is any suggestion regarding,

1, If it is possible to get a car at the time of arrival? Is the possibility high?

2, If no car available, is there any travel package/tour guide I could have to experience the island? We are going to visit the Mauna Kea Summit, The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park as well as snorkeling at one beach. By the way, we stay at Hilton Waikoloa Village.

    Any advice is highly appreciated.

Have you tried Rent a Wreck or similar company?

It's New Years in Hawaii... that happens every year.

Do you have status with anybody? I know National's Executive Elite and others guarantee a car within 24 hours notice, so maybe that's one way to go.

We did a tour with a small van up Mauna Kea for sunset and star watching. Don't recall the company, but I don't think it would be difficult to find one.

Roberts Hawaii offers tours of the island via bus:

    http://www.robertshawaii.com/packages.php

Never used them other than for transportation from HNL to Waikiki. What I'd do is perhaps reach out to the concierge of the Hilton ahead of your arrival and ask what they can recommend and book. If you don't have a car, you presumably want to ensure pick-up at the hotel.

Just tried Rent a Wreck and the website says "Sorry, no Rent-A-Wreck locations were found in that state. "

I assume it is similar to the online agencies like expedia?

Really? I got the National Car Rental Emerald Club Executive Status by purchasing Milepoint.com membership, but I have not given attention to this since the 2000 united miles and 2000 gold passport points were more attractive to me at first. I will check it out and report back soon.

    Thanks

Updated: Seems like I only get executive status while the guaranteed availability is for executive elite members. Sigh~~~

updated again: Executive members see availability while guest (not a member) cannot see.

Yeah. I sent an email to the hotel trip planner email address listed on the website and am waiting for the reply.

viguera, words just cannot express how many thanks you deserve. I followed your suggestion , logged into my national cars rental account, tried a quote and there are 5 different sizes available! I asked my friend, who don't have a membership with National, to try to quote, but he cannot see even one car available. Seems like even executive members (lower than executive elite) still enjoy some privileges.

Thanks again for reminding me of this benefit.

Also thanks to Milepoint premium membership. The National Car rental executive membership is not the reason I made the payment, however, it saves my trip now!
