I feel like being thrown off a plane is the new plastic surgery for celebrities: everyone's doing it and none of it looks pretty.

Why is it so hard to just follow the rules? This type of stuff, carryon bags and security for example, if people would just follow the published rules it would make travel so much easier and less stressful.

Of my soap box now. :)

Rules do not apply to celebrities. (At least many seem to think so) :(

    http://travel.usatoday.com/flights/post/2011/12/alec-baldwin-american-airlines/580029/1?csp=Travel

I feel for American on this one. Specifically, the paragraph in the Wall Street Journal that says Mr. Baldwin had "tweeted" about his dissatisfaction and that AA "tweeted" back: "Proving that no good deed goes unpunished, American's tweet to Baldwin irritated non-celebrity customers. Regular joes like Charlotte, North Carolina-based lawyer Brandon White tweeted at American to ask why celebrities like Baldwin seem to get direct Twitter service.."

Didn't the Journal read Milepoint last week where our membership was hinting that if anything, AA was being too patient and accommodating with its Twitter service, not just to celebrities? Is it possible AA's "tweet" back to Mr. B was just the same (they'd look into it if he'd DM more info) as it would have been to you and me?

OK, gotta go over and cancel my membership in the Alec Baldwin Fan Club now.

Oh wait. I didn't have one.

I have flown AA 2 or 3 times, and replied to a tweet mentioning them - I got a response in 5 minutes. I'm actually very impressed with their twitter response (vs UA).

The most comical part I've read is the Times article comments. Some good material there.

It's a Baldwin, what do you expect? One of those boys is always causing or is in some kind of trouble.

I have NO respect for Alec Baldwin. If he calls his daughter a "rude, thoughtless little pig" then one can only imagine what he was saying to the flight attendant.

And there have been third party reports from other influential people (Head of MTV Networks and Oscar De La Hoya) confirming American's side

I found his blog on the HUFF Post a good read. Especially the last sentence " I think, that you've got to fly overseas today in order to bring back what has been thrown overboard by US carriers in terms of common sense, style, and service." I'm not saying that he was in the right, just thought this was an interesting comment.

Common sense tells me that ignoring the announcement to turn of cellphones might get me in trouble. Common sense also tells me that rules should apply to everyone, including Alec Baldwin.

I don't find it very "stylish" to call the flight attendants "retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950′s". Probably not the best way to make friends among the people that are tasked with serving him drinks and food. Just saying.

Love that AA came out and posted what they did on Twitter / Facebook. I hate it when companies tip toe around stuff like this involving celebrities. Sounds like one less idiot to encounter on future AA flights, which can only be a positive thing!

I bet AA must have known they getting into the good books with more "normal" passengers! Is there a celebrity ranking on whom to let get away with it and whom not?;)

They could probably earned some good will with the FAs if they publicly told Baldwin that he was no longer welcome to fly on AA after his comments about their employees.

He's been such a jerk about this whole thing that I could actually see that happening. I don't think they actually will do it, but his conduct has been so boorish that it wouldn't totally shock me if they did.

Hopefully, the FA's knew then, and know now, that their company is in their corner...they did the right thing.
