Lots of 900ER/9's. Wonder if they're gonna continue to increase Hawaii/transcontinental flying.

As a starting point AS can use those aircraft to put more capacity in slot or gate constrained airports like EWR, DCA & ORD, and to add capacity on Hawaii routes without increasing frequencies.

AS had once hoped to use the 737-900's on transcon flights but they couldn't complete the flights with a full load and headwinds, so that's where the 738's fly now. The 739ER's will be able to fly those missions with more capacity.

I think AS has said that 2/3 of the aircraft will replace existing aircraft (probably 734's & 73G's) and 1/3 will increase the fleet size. So AS will have a lot more capacity to put somewhere.

I think these planes will also be used to introduce premium economy and reduce the current economy space, something Alaska has stated it will do in the near future.

Seems as though this is a well thought out purchase. Keeping the same manufacturer (besides the obvious political implications for a SEA airline) makes sense and provides continuity. Now if we could just get some love for the FFs again...
