In an incident that has left Air India red-faced, four flight attendants who were put up in a hotel in Chicago created a major scene last Tuesday.

"The cause of the fight is not known, but they were screaming. After some time, they turned violent with each other. Someone broke a bottle and there were fisticuffs,'' said an airline source. "Cabin crew members and others have had arguments in the past, but these are sorted out and they never get out of hand. Never in the history of the airline has such a violent fight taken place,'' he added.

"The police came in and an ambulance was called because some of them were injured. But the hotel requested the police to not register a case. They reasoned that these four were scheduled to depart the next day,'' said a source. "But from 2am to 10.30am, the police were posted outside their rooms. They were escorted to the airport by the police and it is likely that they may be banned from entering the US," the source added. This is the second time that Air India flight attendants have had a brawl in this hotel. A few months ago, a couple had an altercation, though it was not this serious. The airline spokesperson said he would need a day to respond.

I happened to hang out with some cabin crew on layover recently, and one mentioned to me that he always arranges for him and his friends on the crew to hang out at a different hotel than the one they stay at, so if anyone gets drunk or acts in a way someone else find offensive (as he put it, "making out") it won't get back to management.

They operate two flights a day out of ORD, to Delhi and Hyderabad, but they aren't going to have extra crew on hand in Chicago, so I'm guessing a canceled flight and one or two day delay for a lot of pax till they get crew in place.

Thats ridiculous . hillarious but sad. Interesting the company tries to distance them by not referring to them as FA's. Same goes for JAL and ANA crew since they arent "employees" of the company and merely contracted staff until the 3-5 year range when they get offered a job.
